Area Warden
Course Overview
Effective emergency evacuation planning is critical to ensuring the safety of all occupants in the event of an emergency. Area wardens play a key role in implementing emergency procedures, coordinating evacuations, and supporting a calm and orderly response during workplace incidents.
This course provides participants with the knowledge required to fulfil the responsibilities of an area warden under workplace emergency plans. It aligns with the requirements of the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 (WA) and reflects current guidance from Safe Work Australia, WorkSafe WA, and Australian Standard 3745:2010.
Participants will gain an understanding of the types of emergencies that may occur in the workplace, such as fire, medical incidents, hazardous substance releases, or natural events. The course outlines the specific actions required of wardens before, during, and after an evacuation, including communication protocols, accountability procedures, and the safe use of evacuation routes. It also explains how wardens coordinate across different work areas to support an effective response.
Under WHS legislation, persons conducting a business or undertaking (PCBUs) must ensure appropriate emergency procedures are in place, practiced, and supported by trained personnel. This course equips wardens with the knowledge to perform their duties effectively and helps workplaces meet their legal obligations and improve emergency preparedness.
