Course Overview
This course provides participants with a practical introduction to the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 (WA) and supporting WHS Regulations administered by the Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety (LGIRS).
It is designed for anyone who needs to understand their obligations under Western Australia’s WHS laws including employers, officers, supervisors, health and safety representatives, and workers across all industries.
Participants will explore the framework of the WHS Act, its purpose, and the general principles that underpin modern safety legislation in Western Australia. The course highlights the roles and responsibilities of duty holders, the principles of consultation and cooperation, and the mechanisms for compliance, enforcement, and penalties.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, participants will gain an understanding of:
The purpose and objectives of the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 (WA)
The structure and key features of Western Australia’s WHS legislation
Work health and safety duties, including those of PCBUs, officers, workers, and other persons at the workplace
The meaning of “reasonably practicable” and how it applies to decision-making
Consultation, representation, and participation requirements under the Act
The role of the regulator, inspectors, and enforcement measures such as notices and prosecutions
Penalties and offences under the WHS Act
