WHS Due Diligence for Directors and Senior Managers
Practical training on Officers’ duties under Western Australian WHS legislation.
Course Overview
Directors and senior managers play an important role in how work health and safety is managed within their organisation. Those who meet the definition of an Officer also have a personal duty to exercise due diligence under the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 (WA).
This course provides a practical understanding of these responsibilities. It focuses on understanding whether the organisation has appropriate systems to manage its WHS hazards and risks, and how Officers can establish the extent to which those systems are implemented and effective.
Participants will examine the duties of the organisation as a PCBU and the due diligence obligations of Officers. They will consider the resources and processes needed to manage risks, the information they receive, and the evidence supporting assurances about WHS performance. The course emphasises informed inquiry, independent judgement, questioning and follow-up.
Workplace examples and discussion will help participants apply these concepts within their organisation. They will explore how to look beyond documented arrangements and completed activities to understand whether risks are being effectively managed in everyday work.
